COLUMBIA, S.C. — Staying warm and fed during frigid winter nights is a daily challenge for many facing homelessness in the Midlands.
For the past five years, the nonprofit Community Cookout, has worked to ease that burden, providing meals and a sense of community to those in need.
“Every time I come here, I am really in need,” said one visitor who stopped by for a meal. “I’m so grateful they [Community Cookout] come. In fact, if they don’t come, it sometimes becomes a panic because it’s very difficult to get something out here. But on Tuesdays, it is one of the favorable days because we do get to eat.”…
