Public Safety Committee looking to address street takeovers, police recruitment and more during legislative session

CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Street takeovers and other hazardous roadway behaviors are in the crosshairs of state legislators.

The bipartisan leaders of the Public Safety Committee outlined their top priorities at the committee’s first meeting of the year. Atop the list of bills they plan to pursue in this legislative session are those aimed at street takeovers – a problem they say could be addressed by more aggressive enforcement.

‘Extremely concerned’ and ‘ecstatic:’ Connecticut officials weigh in on Trump’s inauguration

“We want to give some more teeth to our law enforcement officials to be able to pursue individuals who are endangering the safety of those pedestrians who may be walking and also those that may be on our roadways,” State Sen. Herron Keyon Gaston said. Gaston, a Bridgeport Democrat, is co-chair of the Public Safety Committee.
