ROANOKE, Va. – As temperatures plummet to frigid lows, animal experts are urging pet owners to take extra precautions to protect their animals. Pets, like their owners, are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia, making it essential to limit their outdoor exposure during cold weather.
Julie Rickmond, marketing, and communications director at Roanoke Valley SPCA, highlights some warning signs to watch for in pets.
“Changes in coloration in their skin can really be an indicator, also looking at their gums, the gums of your pets to make sure they’re not either really pale or very very bright red. You know anything like that can indicate there’s some sort of change and it’s usually not for the better,” Rickmond explains…
