MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile County Presiding Circuit Judge Spiro Cheriogotis on Tuesday announced he is running for mayor.
Cheriogotis, a former prosecutor who has been on the bench since 2019, will have to give up his judgeship to run.
“The decision to run for Mayor is not without great sacrifice, but when I look at my four young children and think about their quality of life, their opportunities and their future, I know I can’t sit on the sidelines,” he said in a statement.
Cheriogotis becomes the second candidate to formally join the race to replace retiring Mayor Sandy Stimpson. Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson announced her candidacy earlier this month. The election is set for August…
