Sturgis Council decides to hang on to fairgrounds property

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council Tuesday night decided not to authorize the mayor to sign a letter of intent with the Meade 46-1 School District to sell approximately 9 acres of the fairgrounds property.

The issue was tabled last fall after representatives from AMA Racing and American Flat Trackers brought forward an idea to restore the half-mile dirt track. A portion of the track was included in the proposed property sale.

Racing enthusiasts propose attempting to garner federal or state grants to fix up the property in hopes of attracting national motorcycle and national races to the historic track…
