New dog boarding facility approved for Christensen Road property

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Laramie County commissioners approved a proposal Tuesday to establish a dog boarding kennel on 9.85 acres in the Stearns Subdivision at 6912 Christensen Road. The project, submitted by developer Louis Hurbis and represented by Steil Surveying Services LLC, received no public objections during the meeting and only one emailed comment in support.

The kennel, which will operate on A1-zoned agricultural and rural residential land, is set within an Urban Rural Interface area. This zoning permits mixed land uses and provides access to essential services like water and sewer through the South Cheyenne Water & Sewer District.

The approval follows Laramie County Land Use Regulations, which mandate board review for this type of commercial facility.

Addressing Community Concerns

During the planning process, several potential issues were reviewed, including:

  • Waste Management: The facility plans to haul animal waste to a transfer station, with long-term plans to contract a commercial vendor to ensure proper disposal and odor control.
  • Buffering Standards: To minimize disruptions for neighbors, the facility will comply with spacing and building placement requirements.
  • Traffic and Drainage: Although waivers were granted for traffic and drainage studies, improvements to access roads may be necessary for emergency response.

No residents appeared at the public hearing to comment on the project, and the only submitted feedback was in support of the proposal. Commissioners agreed that the facility would fulfill a local need for high-quality dog boarding and training services…
