Safety concerns halt Knowlwood Road vacation; McLees closure approved

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Laramie County commissioners voted Tuesday to approve the vacation of a 1.4-mile section of Road 103, also known as McLees Road, while unanimously denying a petition to vacate an 80-foot portion of Knowlwood Road. The decisions followed extensive discussions about public safety, property access and community concerns during public hearings held at the historic courthouse.

Road 103 vacation approved

The commissioners approved the vacation of Road 103 without any dissenting votes. The petition, submitted by property owner Bonnie Reider, cited ongoing issues with vandalism, trespassing and security at her ranch, which the road traverses.

Reider urged the board to grant the vacation, emphasizing that the road does not provide access to public lands or other properties. Commissioner Troy Thompson noted the road’s fascinating history but supported the decision to vacate.

The county’s approval removes the 80-foot public right-of-way designation, allowing Reider to restrict access and secure her property.
