Cary Fire Protection District Has Cary-Grove High School Students Repairing Car

Partnership with High School for Vehicle Repair Project

When the motor failed on our 2014 Buick Verano support vehicle during the summer of 2024, the Cary Fire Protection District saw an opportunity to turn a challenge into a unique learning experience.

Instead of retiring the vehicle, we offered it to Cary-Grove High School’s Automotive Division to serve as an educational project for their students.

Throughout the fall semester, a group of 6-10 senior students in the Seminars Auto Class worked to diagnose and repair the vehicle.

The project presented several challenges, requiring the students to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.

Through their determination and effort, they successfully completed the repairs, and the vehicle will soon return to service to support the District’s administrative and operational functions…
