SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) — Believe it or not, Horry County saw the highest snowfall totals in South Carolina from this winter storm, and that means lots of extra work for county crews and government officials.
Horry County officials say their road crews started preparing for the large amounts of snow last week, even working through the weekend by laying brine and salt anticipating heavy snowfall. But sleet and snow have created a mess on major roads like Highway 17 Bypass and Highway 501.
Officials say teams from the county and the South Carolina Department of Transportation started plowing roads early Wednesday morning with motor graders along main routes to allow more accessible travel.
