Lenoir recognizes deputy fire chief Kenny Nelson with key to the city

The city of Lenoir, during its regular meeting Tuesday, recognized deputy fire chief Kenny Nelson upon his retirement. Nelson, who has spent 43 years serving various fire departments, has spent 35 of those years with Lenoir, and was awarded the key to the city for his efforts. In an interview with the News-Topic, Nelson shared some thoughts from his decades of service.

“I was volunteering with Valmead Fire Department, and my chief was the assistant chief at Lenoir,” Nelson said. “That was kind of how it got started. I started as a firefighter, my first actual rank in the city was in January, 2001, I became a second lieutenant. I became deputy fire chief in 2018.”…
