Local divers honor ‘Olive’ the Giant Pacific Octopus, proudly nurture her legacy by tending to her eggs

The legacy of “Olive,” a well-known, beloved Giant Pacific Octopus who lived in Puget Sound at Des Moines’ Redondo Beach, lives on thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the local dive community, which rallied to ensure her 100,000 eggs hatched successfully after her death.

From July to December of 2024, divers documented her extraordinary story on video and through photographs, revealing a tale of resilience, teamwork, and the miraculous birth of her hatchlings.
