IMPD: 3 arrested after jaywalking stop leads to foot chase, recovery of 2 firearms

INDIANAPOLIS — Three individuals were arrested after an initial stop for jaywalking led to a foot chase and the recovery of two firearms.

According to a post on social media from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, detectives with IMPD’s east district violence reduction team were patrolling in the 6200 block of Allisonville Road when they saw four individuals reportedly jaywalking in the intersection.

When officers moved in to stop the individuals, three of them reportedly took off running in different directions. With assistance from the Indiana State Police, 21-year-old Rushawn Smith and 21-year-old Ky’Waun Smith were apprehended.

The third individual in the group, identified by IMPD as 22-year-old Lamarvion Garner, continued to be pursued by officers. The post read that they saw Garner slide down an embankment. At the bottom of the embankment, officers reportedly located a loaded rifle.
