Ohio man killed by train after attempting to drive around crossing gates

COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WFMJ/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – An Ohio man died in a collision with a train after he attempted to drive around closed railroad crossing gates.

45-year-old Nikolas Thompson of Salem, Ohio was killed by an Amtrak train after he intentionally drove around closed railroad crossing gates at around 6 a.m. on Friday, according to a news release obtained by WFMJ.

The car was completely totaled, with its remnants landing on its roof near the tracks. The road that Thompson was driving on was closed for multiple hours as crews cleared the wreckage. One of the gate arms was destroyed in the collision…
