US hiker shot, robbed by suspected cartel members in California wilderness

SAN DIEGO (TMX) – Two hikers in California’s Jacumba Wilderness were attacked and robbed by suspected Mexican cartel members this week, including a U.S. citizen who was shot in the leg, officials said.

At around 11 a.m. Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s El Centro Sector were alerted to the shooting in the Jacumba Wilderness.

Border Patrol agents were dispatched to the area, approximately 1,000 feet north of the U.S.–Mexico border, where they encountered a group of hikers who said two members of their group were attacked by armed individuals…
