HONOLULU (KHON2) — Drivers should prepare for delays on the H1 freeway this weekend. The Hawaii Department of Transportation’s (HDOT) Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project will close town-bound lanes starting Friday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. and last through Monday, March 17 at 4 a.m.
H-1 freeway closure causes Saturday traffic nightmare
“In areas where we see significant cracking is normally because of a base failure. So, we’re not just ripping off the top pavement and putting on new pavement, making sure that we reconstruct that structural section below the pavement to ensure that you won’t have these problems anymore- we’re putting in pavement that’s going to last another 25 years from now,” stated Ed Sniffen, DOT Director.
Three right lanes will be closed between the Kaimakani Street overpass and the eastbound Nimitz Highway off-ramp.
Construction is expected to be completed near the end of May. Commuters are asked to avoid the area if possible…
