Surprise! Jessica Simpson Rocks SXSW with First Performance in 15 Years
Austin, TX – Y’all ready for this? Noughties icon Jessica Simpson made a surprise return to the stage at SXSW, treating fans at the Recording Academy’s Austin Chapter Block Party to her first performance in a decade and a half. The singer, who rose to fame with hits like “I Wanna Love You Forever,” seemed thrilled to be back in the spotlight, sharing new music and revisiting some classic favorites.
Before launching into her set, Simpson told the crowd she was returning to performing to reconnect with her true self. She debuted songs from her upcoming album, “Nashville Canyon Part 1,” including the catchy track “Breadcrumbs.” But the real singalong moments came when she belted out her Dukes of Hazzard anthem and her iconic cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walking.”
Simpson’s return to music comes amidst a difficult period in her personal life. She and her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson, announced their separation earlier this year after ten years of marriage. The couple, who share three children, have stated they are prioritizing their kids during this transition.
