ICE arrests 5 people in Charlotte amid efforts to increase train safety, agency says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Five people believed to be undocumented immigrants were taken into custody in Charlotte last month by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, the agency announced on Tuesday.

Federal officials said five people were “arrested on administrative charges” on Feb. 6 during a “targeted operation in the Charlotte area.” They were taken into ICE’s custody, and were likely to be deported from the U.S.

An administrative arrest by ICE happens when a person, likely someone who is undocumented, is arrested for a “civil violation of the immigration laws,” the agency’s website reads. An administrative charge is not a criminal charge…
