Multi phase storm heading for South Dakota

A March storm has its eye on the Madison area this weekend. Fire weather concerns begin today, as winds pick up and relative humidity values remain low. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for counties mainly west of I-29 from 1 to 8 pm Thursday. Any fires that develop could spread rapidly, so outdoor burning is not advised. Fire weather concerns remain elevated for early Friday, but relative humidity values will improve as our next storm system approaches.

A multi-hazard storm system moves in Friday through Saturday, with “Phase 1” of this system bringing a threat for some strong to severe storms Friday afternoon and evening. Large hail up to a quarter in size and 60 mph winds are the primary threats.
