Three skiers are buried in an avalanche in Alaska

Three skiers are believed to be buried in an avalanche in Anchorage, Alaska on Tuesday afternoon. The dangerous conditions of the backcountry have prevented the recovery operations.

The three missing adults were flown by a helicopter to mountain range for skiing, known as heli-skiing. The Alaska State Troopers said the avalanche or slide happened around 3:30 p.m. local time.

The commercial guides use avalanche beacons which are radio tracking devices that are worn by skiers. They use these beacons to identify the area the skiers were most likely buried, but they were unable to locate them because they are under 40 to 100 feet of snow…
