10. Baltimore bridge collapse resulted in significant losses

When the Dali container ship lost power and struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in March, causing it to collapse and sending eight construction workers into the water, the incident had far-reaching effects.

Beyond the loss of life – six workers died when the bridge collapsed – the main shipping channel to the Port of Baltimore was blocked for more than two months, causing significant economic and supply chain disruptions. In April, the FBI opened a criminal investigation into the disaster.
