Cecil County, towns get a share of state grants

ANNAPOLIS — Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development announced recently that $9.5 million has been awarded to various Eastern Shore towns and organizations through the State Revitalization Program for projects that will spur economic development.

Cecil County’s share totaled $635,000. Elkton Alliance received $45,000 for an exterior facade improvement program in the Elkton Arts & Entertainment District. Susquehanna Habitat for Humanity was awarded $90,000 which the non-profit organization will use to buy a duplex and a single family home in Elkton.

Among the Cecil County towns that received grant monies, Elkton got the biggest grant, $225,000. That will be used to abate lead paint in the drill hall at the Elkton Armory. Port Deposit will apply its $75,000 grant to the demolition of abandoned buildings…
