Iconic Alabama peanut business opens shop in college town

The Alabama Peanut Co. – an iconic Birmingham business with a history that goes back to 1907 – will open its second shop, and first outside Birmingham, in downtown Tuscaloosa this week.

The Tuscaloosa location opens Friday – just in time for the Alabama Crimson Tide’s home matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks – in the former Filling Station space at 411 23rd Ave. in Tuscaloosa’s Temerson Square area.

Alabama Peanut Co. owner Jaime Thursby tells AL.com that he has been looking to open another location for a while, and being a college town with 40,000-plus students and a voracious appetite for sports, Tuscaloosa checks a lot of boxes…
