AMSTERDAM, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The city of Amsterdam is getting a new discount grocery store. Brent Yager is set to open What-A-Bargain Grocery in the old bank building at 1 Market Street.

What-A-Bargain Grocery will be selling liquidated groceries and essentials at a quarter of the price of big box stores, said Yager. Yager also owns What-A-Bargain, a general merchandise discount store, B2B Wholesale, a wholesaling company, and Drifter’s , a seasonal eatery at Amsterdam’s Riverlink Park.
“We decided we wouldn’t open another business unless it was something the city really needed,” said Yager. “I know this will help every single person in Amsterdam.”

Yager said they chose the property on Market Street because they wanted a standalone building downtown with its own parking lot. The old building has been gutted, said Yager, and needs a total rehab inside, including removing the bank vault.
Yager is looking to open What-A-Bargain Grocery in about 60 days, at the end of March or the beginning of April. The store will be open Friday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m…
