Corvallis pool remains closed, awaits assessment

There’s no good news regarding the status of the Osborn Aquatic Center closure.

The trouble began in mid-September, when staff noticed some areas of rust in the roof that covers the natatorium during routine maintenance. At that point, they closed the indoor pool area.

A follow-up inspection the next week revealed additional corrosion that might impact the structural integrity of the facility, and the decision was made to close the entire aquatic center — indoor and outdoor pools, showers, classrooms and offices — to the public.

Now, the city is working with a contractor to put up shoring on the roof. From there, they’ll be able to move forward with destructive testing, which will assess just how bad things are. The contractor is set to start around Nov. 4.
