New Mexico school bus attendant ‘seen repeatedly hitting’ autistic and non-verbal boy on CCTV

An Albuquerque, New Mexico, public school bus attendant was arrested after she was caught on camera repeatedly striking a student with autism.

According to an incident report, Debbie Chavira, 64, is accused of hitting the youngster numerous times. According to the police, between August 26 and September 4, Chavira hit the student 59 times in the face, arms, and torso. According to the incident report, the boy arrived “with fresh scratch marks on the back of his neck,” prompting school authorities to report her on September 4.

Officials examined more surveillance tape while looking into the alleged abuse, and they claim that Chavira was observed punching the youngster repeatedly over a 10-day period.

In the incident report, Chavira was accused of striking the youngster “open-handed, closed fisted, and with a plastic (yellow) ‘child check’ sign,” “intentionally and without justifiable cause,” and others. The boy “being autistic and non-verbal” and unable to “communicate through writing either,” according to the report, prevented investigators from interviewing him…
