2 cats dead, 2 people displaced after house fire in Northeast DC

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Officials are investigating a fire that left two cats dead and two people displaced on Tuesday morning.

In a post on the X platform around 8:19 a.m. on Jan. 7, the DC Fire and EMS Department (DCFD) said crews were called to a box alarm in the 4300 block of Varnum Place.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy flames coming from a two-story home and its attic.

About 40 minutes later, DCFD said the blaze was out, but crews were still monitoring hotspots…
