Parents fear ASD budget cuts will close immersion program

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Immersion programs are facing cuts under the Anchorage School District’s (ASD) proposed budget next year as it looks to make up what it says is a $100 million deficit which is causing parents to fear what will happen next.

According to ASD, nearly 3,000 students are enrolled in the district’s immersion programs which offer instruction in seven languages including Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, German, Yu’pik, and French.
