Anchorage, AK – Air travelers with plans to fly to or through a key hub in the northern U.S. are being warned to prepare for possible delays or cancellations if a nearby volcano erupts in the coming days.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, scientists have increased alert levels around a remote volcano located roughly 80 miles from a major metropolitan area that serves as a critical air traffic connection between the continental U.S. and Asia. The volcano, known for past explosive eruptions, has shown heightened seismic activity, raising concerns about potential airborne ash that could ground flights for up to 24 hours or longer.
