HANCOCK COUNTY — The first major snowstorm of the year is here. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis began issuing warnings Friday, telling most of Central Indiana to prepare for a big winter blast Sunday morning through Monday night.
The last 6-inch snow accumulation in and around Indianapolis fell in January 2022. The last 8-inch accumulation came in January 2019, and the last 10-inch accumulation fell in March 2018. Now, for the first time in almost two years, a winter storm watch has been issued for all of Central Indiana and is affecting Hancock County.
Hancock County Emergency Management put the county under a “Yellow Travel Advisory” shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday. A yellow travel advisory is the lowest level of local travel alert. It means weather conditions could restrict routine travel or other activities, indicating drivers should use extra caution in those areas.
