Nov. 1, 1949, in The Star: Two representatives of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company met yesterday with Anniston Chamber of Commerce leaders to discuss discontinuing two L&N passenger trains that come through Anniston. The two men explained to chamber leaders why they’ve asked the Public Service Commission to let their company discontinue trains 85 and 86 that operate on a 180-mile circuit linking Birmingham, Calera, Sylacauga, Anniston and Wellington. The railroad reports that its total income on passenger tickets for the entire run is about $46 per day. [These trains would have stopped in Anniston at the beautiful old train station on West 13th.]
