I would like to sort of apologize to Louisville about one specific issue. And I call it a “sort of” apology because not everything regarding this issue is optimal, but I have discovered another city that’s even worse. So, Derby City, you are off the hook, if only just a little bit.
As for you, Nashville, it’s time for a sit-down. It’s time to be called into the office with the door closed behind you. I’m not the only one who feels this way. In fact, “feelings” have nothing to do with a survey from INRIX, a company that provides location-based data like real-time and historical traffic conditions. They are calling Nashville on the carpet for the ever-increasing headache Music City traffic has become. And it’s not like it’s happened overnight.
Two years ago, traffic congestion in Nashville was ranked as having the 131st worst congestion on Earth, but that has changed dramatically and not for the better.
INRIX has analyzed the data from more than 900 cities in 37 countries, and what they discovered likely doesn’t surprise the commuters who deal with heavy traffic everyday in Tennessee’s largest city. And, out of more than 900 cities worldwide, Nashville comes in at a dubious #27. The number jumps to 11th here in the U.S. And just look at those lost hours and the cost. Good grief.
As a semi-frequent visitor to Nashville, I’d noticed increasing difficulty getting through the city that hadn’t been a problem before. And now we have these numbers to bear out what I was thinking. When you throw in rapid population growth, these results were probably inevitable.
