Carthage man arrested, charged in Chapel Hill assault investigation

A Chapel Hill police investigation of an assault earlier this month led to an arrest Wednesday in Moore County. Cody Callahan, 19, of Carthage, is facing charges of voluntary manslaughter, simple assault, and false imprisonment. 

At around 7:40 p.m. on Sept. 7, Callahan allegedly assaulted Michael Griffin, 55, of Chapel Hill, on E. Rosemary Street, according to the Chapel Hill Police Department. The investigation found that Callahan allegedly injured Griffin, who was trying to stop Callahan from allegedly assaulting another man, according to Chapel Hill Police. Griffin was transported to UNC Hospitals, where he died on Sept. 13.
