Seminole County Judge Wayne Culver’s repeated misconduct raises questions about judicial accountability and its impact on the court system.

Fla. News —In a troublesome recurrence of judicial misconduct, Seminole County Circuit Court Judge Wayne Culver, infamously dubbed the “playground bully,” is once again under fire for his abusive behavior in the courtroom. This marks the second time Culver has faced disciplinary action for his conduct, which has included cursing at defendants, denying their rights, and threatening contempt of court.

What Has He Done?

Judge Culver’s latest misconduct stems from two incidents in February 2022. In one case, he held Samuel Perez in criminal contempt for failing to complete a domestic violence program, sentencing him to a maximum of 179 days in jail without allowing Perez to speak on his own behalf. When a woman in the gallery attempted to address the court, Culver threatened her with custody as well. Perez later successfully appealed his case, but not before spending over a month in jail.
