Mistakes costly for Madill in Dickson defeat

Madill’s defense only yielded 201 total yards, but the Wildcats were unable to overcome a rash of turnovers and penalties in a 28-7 nondistrict loss at Dickson last Friday.

Coach John Heavner’s squad will have a bye this week before returning home for the start of district play on September 27 against Tecumseh.

“Our defense played well enough to keep us in the game,” Heavner stated. “We just made too many mistakes and didn’t execute when we needed to. We were down 14-0 and throwing into the end zone with a chance to cut the lead in half in the second quarter. We just couldn’t consistently sustain anything and then 40 yards of their scoring drive in the third quarter came off our penalties. You can’t shoot yourself in the foot like that…
