When schools closed this week due to a heavy snowstorm, Montgomery County Public Schools began preparing to offer meals to thousands of students at sites across the county. In general, on the second day of school closures, or a “Code Red,” the district starts serving the meals. Nick Greer, a wellness supervisor in the district’s Division of Food and Nutrition Services, explained that staff members hand out bags filled with meals, fruit, vegetables and milk. As of Wednesday, MCPS had given out more than 3,500 meals. [WTOP]
County officials urge residents to use public transit, avoid traffic
Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is preparing for traffic congestion in the near future as the incoming Trump Administration pledging to send federal workers back to the office five days a week. MCDOT Director Chris Conklin is pushing for residents to give the public transit a try said that “it’s time for people to look for alternative to driving themselves, sitting in traffic, and losing all that time.” [WJLA]
Germantown native, soccer player named to U.S. Women’s National Team’s Futures Camp
Makenna Morris, a forward for the Washington Spirit, a local team in the National Women’s Soccer League, was called up to join the U.S. Women’s National Team’s 2025 Futures Camp Roster. Morris was born and raised in Germantown and played for Bethesda Soccer Club growing up.
