City purchases space for new parking

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) – Some changes are on the way to the city of Ashland. During a commission meeting on Thursday, the city of Ashland approved the mayor to go ahead and sign the approval of purchasing 341 14th Street — only a block over from Winchester Avenue.

The plan is knock the Old Century 21 Annex building and the house next to it. The house was purchased by the city last fall with the acquisition of the Paramount Arts Center. This will help add more parking to the area the city already owns.

“People have always talked about ‘we have a parking problem,’ and when your creating more spaces so they get taken up quite quickly,” said Ashland Mayor Chuck Charles. “When we took down the Ashland Oil building, particularly to build the conference center, it ended up becoming parking spaces. So it’s a great benefit to downtown.”…
