Galion Police Chief releases statement

GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Galion Police Chief Ryan Strange has issued the following statement regarding this afternoon’s incident in Galion:

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at around 2:18 p.m., the Galion Police Department received a 911 call about a shooting at 941 East Walnut Street. Officers arrived on the scene quickly and located two subjects suffering from gunshot wounds outside the residence. The victims, both residents of 941 E. Walnut Street, identified Jerold L. Frazier II, their roommate, as the shooter. Galion Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and transported the shooting victims, an adult male and an adult female, to Galion Avita Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both victims stated that Frazier had another male in the residence and was still armed.

Frazier called the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and told them that he had shot at least one person and had another man hostage inside his residence. The hostage was identified as a 42-year-old male. Frazier threatened to shoot him if anyone came into the house, prompting a standoff. A perimeter was set around the residence, officers from surrounding law enforcement agencies arrived to assist, and negotiations began. After several hours, the suspect and the hostage exited the residence at 6:27 p.m., where the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
