Jack Flaherty and the Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to contain the New York Mets in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers had a chance to end the seres as they entered with a 3-1 lead, but the 12-6 loss forces a Game 6 back at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.
Flaherty did not have his command or stuff from the get go, and it didn’t get better throughout his start. A single from Francisco Lindor to lead off the first and a walk from Brandon Nimmo set the stage for Pete Alonso, who crushed a three-run homer to put the Mets up 3-0.
The Mets continued to add on in the third inning when Starling Marte doubled in two more after a pair of walks to start the inning. They broke the game open, scoring three more runs in the inning on singles from Francisco Alvarez and Nimmo, along with a triple from Lindor to give them eight runs in the game…
