Atlanta, Georgia, the peach state’s capital and one of the largest cities in the United States was not always called Atlanta!
The history of Atlanta’s name dates back to when the state of Georgia decided to build and start a railroad from Georgia all the way into the Mid-West. A location was then chosen to become the line’s terminus. A stake was then drove into the ground marking the location and founding of the “Terminus”. This is what is called the “Zero Mile Post”.
