During the month of January, the 64th Lights for Peace flag to fly at the Fort Taber – Fort Rodman Military Museum honors the memory of Technician 5th Grade, Felix S. Witkowicz, who served in the United States Army, participating in both D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge.
Witkowicz was born in New Bedford on September 10, 1918, the youngest child of Leon and Antonina (Kocur) Witkowicz. His family later moved to Fairhaven.
Although Felix earned his high school diploma from Fairhaven High School, he missed receiving his diploma. Instead, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps during the recruitment period, to help support his mother and siblings.
