Police investigating college student who allegedly let dog die in crate in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) – Authorities are investigating the death of a dog reportedly left unattended in a crate over the holiday break at an Auburn apartment complex.

Auburn police confirmed a report of animal abuse on Jan. 5 and are working alongside Auburn Animal Control to investigate the occurrence.

The case has drawn attention on social media after posts shared allegations about the incident. WRBL has been contacted by a handful of non-police sources who say a small husky was allegedly left in a crate by its owner, a Southern Union State Community College student near the end of 2024.
