Bear River bounces Linden in four sets

Bear River High School junior Shelland Salac hadn’t seen the court all night during Tuesday’s Division IV Sac-Joaquin Section playoff matchup against No. 13 Linden, but with the match on the line head coach Matt MacDonald put the ball in her hands with a chance to send the fourth-seeded Bruins through to the quarterfinals.

Salac did exactly what she was asked to do, placing her serve perfectly to end the match and deliver a 3-1 (25-14, 25-14, 24-26, 25-11) victory for Bear River.

“Our kids are always ready. Shelland is such a hard worker and she plays phenomenal defense. She’s been spending time working on her serve trying to get to a point where she feels confident,” MacDonald said. “We have a lot of faith in her to be able to bring her off the bench in a situation where she can deliver for us and she did that tonight. It was unbelievable to see that and we’re so proud of her and all the work she puts in.”…
