Oakmont’s girls’ basketball team is sitting with a solid 7-2 record with the start of the Del Campo Tournament on Thursday.
The Vikings improved that record to 8-2 after a 40-31 win over Woodland in the first round of the tournament. A win is a win, but it was an ugly start for the Vikings, who led 14-9 at halftime.
“I think it was accumulation of finals and an early start time,” Oakmont coach Tyson Garcia said. “Maybe mentally we weren’t fully there, but I don’t think it was anything more than a lack of focus. Finals were definitely on their mind. Also, that rim is notoriously hard to shoot on so that might have played into it too.”…
