Aiken man who hid camera on Folly Beach rental property arrested, deputies say

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – An Aiken County man was arrested for a voyeurism incident connected to Folly Beach, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

54-year-old William Daniel Mayes is charged with 14 counts of voyeurism in the first degree and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to affidavits, Mayes had a hidden camera on the Folly Beach rental property he owned and used the camera to secretly record guests.

CCSO said the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office notified them of the incident in November of 2024. Aiken County discovered the recorded files after receiving an Internet Crimes Against Children cyber tip and executing a search warrant…
