AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – In the wake of a data breach affecting most South Carolina school districts, minus Aiken and Edgefield counties, state leaders are releasing some tips and tricks for parents seeking to protect their children’s personal information.
The Aiken County Public School District told parents and guardians that no student or staff data was compromised on Monday night.
Attorney General Alan Wilson announced he is co-leading a 23-state brief that was filed aimed at protecting students’ First Amendment right to free speech.
“Aiken parents, guardians, teachers and staff – this message is to inform you about a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the company that provides our student information system. PowerSchool notified us of an incident that affected their system. While Aiken County Public Schools use PowerSchool, our own investigation indicates that no student or staff data in their district was compromised. We understand you may have concerns. we want to assure you that we take this matter seriously. We are working closely with PowerSchool and SLED to monitor the situation and we will keep you informed with any updates.
