Denver weather: A chilly holiday with mountain snow for New Year’s Day

DENVER ( KDVR ) — It has been a chilly last day of 2024 with temperatures in Denver weather only reaching the 30s, which is below normal for this time of year. It will be cold for New Year’s Eve for anyone going to be outside in Denver. And, according to Pinpoint Weather, Colorado’s Most Accurate Forecast, snow will develop on New Year’s Day in the Colorado mountains with slick travel late Wednesday into Thursday.

Skies will be partly cloudy overnight across Colorado. There will be a few flurries hitting the top of the northern mountain peaks with little if any accumulation. The wind will be light and from a southerly direction. It will be cold with overnight lows forecast below freezing and in the teens for all of eastern Colorado and metro Denver. The coldest lows will be the single digits in the Colorado mountains, especially the valley locations.

Weather tomorrow: A chilly start to the New Year

Denver and the Front Range will start with sunny skies on New Year’s Day. It will be a chilly holiday with afternoon readings only in the upper 30s to low 40s which is a little below normal for Denver. It will be dry across the eastern plains, but snow will develop in the afternoon through the Colorado mountains with several inches possible by late evening.

Looking ahead: Milder days before cold and snow returns

Temperatures will slowly warm to milder readings in the 50s by Friday. The start of the weekend will cool again to near seasonal levels in the low to mid 40s with increasing clouds, breezy conditions and a flurry arriving late.

A weather pattern change arrives on Sunday with a string of colder days in the 30s for metro Denver. And, there will be snow showers possible each day Sunday through Tuesday.
