TAHLEQUAH – For the third consecutive year, the Cherokee Phoenix has been honored as one of the best newspapers in the state by the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists.
It was recently announced that in this year’s Oklahoma SPJ contest, the Phoenix earned a total of 15 newspaper and individual honors in the print division. The Cherokee Phoenix took first place in the Outstanding Newspaper category for the second year in a row. In 2022, the Cherokee Phoenix won the first-place award for Best Newspaper.
“I am so proud of the excellent work our team at the Cherokee Phoenix produces year in and year out, and to have the quality of our work affirmed by organizations like the SPJ Oklahoma Pro Chapter is especially meaningful because of the quality of other publications being considered,” Cherokee Phoenix Executive Editor Tyler Thomas said. “I want to congratulate our team for their accomplishments and thank them for their service to Cherokee Nation citizens across the country. I also thank the citizens for their support of the newspaper because if not for their support, we would not be able to produce this newspaper that has been vitally important to the tribe since it was founded in 1828.”…
