Kane County State’s Attorney concludes review of deadly police pursuit

KANE COUNTY, Ill. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced the conclusion of the review into the March fatal police pursuit involving a Kane County sheriff’s deputy and 36-year-old Marcos Salazar.

The investigation, conducted by the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, found no misconduct by the deputy, and the case is now closed.

The incident occurred when Salazar sped past a sheriff’s deputy stationed nearby on Route 64. The deputy initiated a pursuit with emergency lights activated, but Salazar continued speeding until his vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire. The deputy tried to extinguish the flames but observed no signs of life in the vehicle.
