A man from Palatine, Guillermo Salgado, has been handed a sentence of six years by the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a DUI incident that claimed the life of a high school teacher in 2023. According to ABC7 Chicago, Salgado’s guilty plea was for aggravated DUI causing an accident/death; he will have to serve at least 85% of this sentence and has already been credited with 382 days served.
The collision, resulting in a fatality, occurred on December 10, 2023, around 2:15 a.m., at the intersection of East Palatine Road near Wheeling Road, it was here that Salgado, while under the influence traveled into the opposing lane and collided head-on with another vehicle, this recklessness led to the death of Robert Gillen, a teacher from Wauconda High School, Wauconda Community Unit School District #118 mourned the loss of Gillen.
