Elderly Woman Perishes in Pennfield Township House Fire, Community Mourns as Investigation Unfolds

A 73-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a house fire in Pennfield Township, north of Battle Creek, last Friday afternoon, as reported by local authorities. The incident occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. at a residence on the 8000 block of Pennfield Road, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters from the Pennfield Township Fire Department, assisted by the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety and the Lifecare Ambulance Service, responded to the scene, as detailed in a statement provided by WOODTV.

Upon their arrival, the emergency personnel found the elderly woman with severe injuries caused by the fire. Efforts were made to rescue her, and life-saving attempts were administered, however, she was pronounced dead at the scene. “The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time,” in a statement obtained by WZZM13. There were no other individuals present in the house at the time of the fire, the deputies added.

The name of the deceased has not been disclosed as of Saturday following the incident.
